Meet the Leadership of CWA Local 1182

Mr. Alexander Sadik is an experienced law enforcement and union leader, with more than 25 years of service in traffic safety and police support operations across New York City. Since 2023, he has served as President of the Traffic Enforcement Union, representing over 3,000 traffic professionals. Previously, he held the position of Vice President, where he was widely recognized for his strong advocacy on behalf of members, championing improved working conditions and reforms to enforcement policies. His background also includes distinguished military leadership in Egypt, as well as long-standing service in the NYPD Reserve and various traffic divisions. As President of the Traffic Enforcement Union, he represents over 3,000 professionals, negotiates contracts, manages grievances, and works to secure improved benefits for members.
He has built strong partnerships with city agencies and elected officials to advance the union’s mission and strengthen its presence across New York City. In his role as an Officer in the NYPD Traffic Division, he implemented traffic regulations in some of the city’s busiest districts, promoted road safety, and contributed to mobility improvement projects. As a Police Captain, he has supported public safety operations, coordinated community events, responded to emergencies, and directed reserve unit deployments during large-scale city events. Earlier in his career, as a Sergeant in the Egyptian Armed Forces, he supervised soldiers in logistics and security operations and was formally honored for his discipline, leadership, and service to the nation.

Syed Islam serves as Secretary and Treasurer of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1182. He began his professional career in banking with the National Bank of Bangladesh before immigrating to the United States in 2006. In 2009, Syed joined the NYPD as a Traffic Enforcement Agent, where he experienced firsthand the challenges his colleagues faced under management. Motivated to make a difference, he became actively involved in the union to defend members’ rights and benefits and to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all. In 2014, Syed was elected as a Manhattan Delegate-at-Large of Local 1182.
His proven leadership and dedication led to his election as Chief Delegate in 2018, and in 2025 he was elected Secretary and Treasurer of the Local. Syed has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment, standing firm with management when necessary and striving to protect and advance the rights, benefits, and working conditions of his colleagues. Syed earned his Master’s degree in Bangladesh and currently resides in Long Island City, Queens, with his wife and their three children. Outside of his union responsibilities, he enjoys playing cricket and football. Above all, Syed is committed to continuing his service to the members of Local 1182 with integrity, dedication, and a strong sense of purpose.

Pankaj Roy serves as a Queens/Bronx Delegate-at-Large for the Communications Workers of America Local 1182. He began his professional career in Bangladesh as an Assistant Production Officer in textile engineering before immigrating to the United States in 2004. In 2006, Pankaj joined the NYPD as a Traffic Enforcement Agent, serving in Manhattan North Command, North Intersection Command, and later Queens South Command. There, he witnessed firsthand the challenges his colleagues faced under management, which inspired him to become actively involved in the union. His focus has remained on protecting members’ rights and benefits while ensuring fair and respectful treatment for all. In 2022, Pankaj was elected as a Queens/Bronx Delegate-at-Large for CWA Local 1182, and his leadership and commitment earned him re-election in 2024.
Throughout his service, he has remained steadfast in standing up to management when necessary and in advancing the rights, safety, and well-being of his fellow members. Pankaj holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree as well as a Postgraduate Diploma equivalent in Textile Studies from the Textile Industry Development Center in Bangladesh. He resides in Bellerose, Queens, with his wife and their three children. Beyond his professional and union responsibilities, Pankaj is an active community advocate, dedicated to fostering inclusivity and unity regardless of race, color, religion, or ethnicity. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, cricket, and chess. Above all, his mission and vision remain rooted in serving the members of Local 1182 with dedication, integrity, and a true spirit of leadership.

Mohammed Alam has been a proud and active member of Local 1182 for more than 24 years and currently serves in the Manhattan South Command. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate for members’ rights, safety, and security, while remaining committed to addressing agency issues and finding solutions that benefit his colleagues. Beyond his union service, Mohammed has contributed to the community in meaningful ways. During his time at the Academy, he organized job seminars that inspired others to pursue careers in public service.
His efforts highlighted that individuals could achieve these opportunities without a college degree and that people from other countries could also succeed by verifying their professional certificates. Mohammed’s professional background is in Facilities, and he holds a Master’s degree in Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. In 2024, he further enhanced his leadership skills by completing a Leadership Training Program at Cornell University. With decades of service and a deep commitment to his members and community, Mohammed continues to dedicate himself to advancing the mission of Local 1182 with integrity and leadership.

Johnael Colon, born and raised in New York City to a Puerto Rican father and Dominican mother, began their law enforcement career in 2005 as an Auxiliary Officer with the NYPD. In 2013, they transitioned into the role of Traffic Agent, where their dedication to public service and advocacy quickly stood out. By 2017, Johnael was appointed as an in-house union delegate, and in 2023, they were elected to serve as the Manhattan Delegate. In addition to their leadership in law enforcement and union representation, Johnael holds a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Management. Outside of work, they are passionate about giving back to the community, enjoying their time coaching Little League baseball and spending quality time with family.

Shadat Hossain has been a dedicated member of Local 1182 for more than 17 years and is currently serving his third term as Delegate for Brooklyn and Staten Island. With over eight years of experience in business management, he brings strong problem-solving, effective leadership, collaborative teamwork, and a track record of consistently achieving results. Over the course of his three terms, Shadat has consistently championed members’ rights while ensuring their safety and security. In 2017, he completed a year of training at Cornell University through a joint educational initiative between CWA District One and Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, further enhancing his knowledge and leadership in labor relations. Beyond his union responsibilities, Shadat actively encourages members to pursue careers in the field. He values family deeply and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and their three children.

In this role, he has been a steadfast advocate for workers’ rights, fair treatment, safe working conditions, strong contract negotiations, and member representation. He consistently stands up to management when necessary, working relentlessly to safeguard and advance members’ rights and benefits. Shamim earned his MBA in Marketing in Bangladesh and now resides in Kensington, Brooklyn, with his mother, wife, and their two children. A passionate community member, he enjoys playing cricket and football in his free time. Above all, Shamim remains committed to serving Local 1182 members with dedication, integrity, and leadership.
Shamim Hossain serves as a Delegate of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1182. In 2017, Shamim joined the NYPD as a Traffic Enforcement Agent Level 2, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges his colleagues faced under management. Motivated to make a difference, he became actively involved in the union to defend members’ rights and benefits while promoting fair treatment and workplace dignity. In 2023, Shamim was elected as a Brooklyn & Staten Island Delegate of CWA Local 1182.
