How TEA Level Two Agents Keep NYC Moving Safely
Traffic Enforcement Agents (TEA) focus on directing traffic and helping New Yorkers reach their destinations safely. When we (traffic agents) are at the intersection, we’re observing, controlling, and keeping the traffic flowing.

We’re moving the traffic, we’re moving you where you need to go. When we’re telling you not to go somewhere, there are reasons for it. First, we’re following orders. Secondly, it is for safety reasons. We cannot just let the motorist jeopardize somebody’s life for their own self-interests. There are many other ways they can use to get to their destination. We (traffic agents) are helping the motorists to utilize all other routes that they can go to their destination. Additionally, we do this for the safety of pedestrians and the benefit of motorists.
Most of the time, we may have a detail in the city, where the traffic is heavy on some streets, while others are open. Now, even if the drivers may see it for themselves that the traffic is heavy on that particular street, they still want to go there anyway. They don’t know how to use their own discretion; therefore, we have to guide them in the right direction. Not only are we dealing with the motorist in a rush to help them get to their destination, but also with the pedestrians who walk with no regard for their safety.
We are the eyes and ears of the city. We’re moving the traffic for everyone’s safety. We’re moving traffic to protect pedestrians, which is one of the major issues we face daily as traffic agents. We also help the pedestrians/tourists with the information that they need.
